Mayflower Outfitters presents Woodland Caribou hunting at its best. Our professional and experienced guides will take you on the hunting trip of a lifetime with a 100% success rate.
Although Woodland Caribou exist in other areas; Newfoundland offers the only opportunity for a hunt. Woodland Caribou have very poor eyesight although they have an excellent sense of smell. By paying particular attention to the wind direction when stalking an animal, this can help the hunter to get a closer shot. Woodland Caribou often weigh in at an average of 400 pounds or more and yield antlers in the 30-40 inch range. For more information, please see the section on Woodland Caribou within the Department of Environment and Conservation website.
The Woodland Caribou-hunting season runs from mid September to the last of December. To hunt Woodland Caribou you have to be prepared to walk, as they tend to roam throughout the day. The best time to hunt Woodland Caribou is during the Rut, as the mature dominant males will herd the does in open terrain providing a great opportunity for a trophy.
